The Collegium il Scholitore di Maghi
The most highly esteemed place of learning in the Dominion. Many prominent figures have received some degree of learning from the Collegium. While they do provide a well-rounded education in things such as politics, arts and sciences, the Collegium excels in the study of magic.
With control of magic being a central pillar of the Dominion's ambitions the Collegium is seen as one of the most important facilities in the nation, enjoying a generous level of funding and security. Apart from education, the Collegium is responsible for the training and approval of battlemages, the safeguarding of artifacts that are recovered, and hosting the Concilio di Maghi which dictates ethics for the investigation, study and use of magics.
Use of magic is extremely restricted and anyone seeking to follow the path of the mage must be prepared for long hours of training and discipline before they can be approved to use their skills outside the walls of the Collegium. That being the case, Dominion mages have exceptional control of their abilities. Any forms of magic which can be sufficiently controlled are allowed, chaos magic is totally banned due to its unpredictable nature. On the battlefield, mages are restricted to simple spells and must only use high level spells if given direct authorization from the Collegium.
Artifacts are held in a large underground vault known as La Cassaforte which is staffed by Custodi. Their role is to keep them secure and also investigate the items to determine if their power can be controlled. While a Custode's place should be safely within the college, it is common for them to be seconded to units where they can make use of their specialist knowledge.
The Collegium uses a key as its symbol. Knowledge is power and their efforts to educate, research and understand hold the key to unlocking that power for the good of the Dominion.
